There is an African proverb that says, “ Until the Lions have their own Historians, the history of the Hunt will always glorify the Hunter." As prideful people, my wife and I feel that it is important for black people to control the narrative about black people.
Currently the way the black family is portrayed in the media is Black fathers are absent, Black mothers are over sexualized, and single parent households are the standard. There has constantly been an attack on the black family dating back to slavery and the antebellum period when Black men and women could not be legally married, up to the present day prison industrial complex.
Wikipedia defines the word Hero as a person who in the face of danger, combats adversity through feats of ingenuity, courage, or strength. We believe that in today's climate people who decide to build a family, are heroes, hence the phrase “Black Family Heroes”
Our goal is to promote “positive propaganda” through positive imagery and messaging. The story that we want to tell is the beauty of Black love. We want to dispel the negative stereotypes, while showcasing the power and the beauty of the Black Family.
